Shabbat Services
Temple Beth Tikvah holds Shabbat services on Friday evenings and on Saturday mornings. Kabbalat Shabbat (Friday evening) services are held in the Pressman Chapel except on the fourth Friday of each month, when they are held in one of the social halls.
Shabbat morning services are held in the Main Sanctuary. Several times each year there are alternative Shabbat morning services called Shabbat Morning Live, held in the social hall. There is an oneg or kiddush following most Shabbat services.
Check the links for the candle lighting and Torah portion.
We are pleased to give honors (Aliyot) to our congregants and guests. Please call Selma Trachtenberg at 433-8553 for Friday evening services. Call the Temple office at 967-3600 for Saturday morning honors.
Friday Evening Kabbalat Shabbat Service
Kabbalat Shabbat services are held at 6:00 pm from Shavuot until the High Holy Day season. They take place at 7:45 pm during the rest of the year, with the exception of the fourth Friday evening of each month, when a special TGIS – Thank God Its Shabbos – service takes place at 6:00 pm.
The TGIS service is informal and includes lively melodies (many are Carlebach compositions) with musical accompaniment. There is usually a Shabbat dinner (with a moderate charge) after the TGIS service.
Shabbat Morning Services
The regular Shabbat morning service begins at 9:00 am with Pesukei D’zimra followed by Shacharit. The Torah service runs from approximately 10:00 am to 11:00 am. It is followed by a Sermon and the Musaf service. During some Shabbat morning services a Torah Study is offered in the Pressman Chapel.
Shabbat Morning Live takes place about once a month as an alternative to the main service. This service provides a substantially abridged version of Shaharit, Torah, and Musaf. There is instrumental accompaniment for many of the prayers and signing by the congregation is encouraged.
Shabbat morning services at about noon followed by an oneg (kiddush) for all congregants.
Mincha is approximately 1/2 hour after the end of Shabbat services.
